This year's theme is: MUSIC OF THE 70's
All band classes will explore music of the 70's and perform at the year end concert on the main stage at Festival Place. Some popular songs we will include are: Tiny Dancer by Elton John, Low Rider by War, Three Little Birds by Bob Marley, Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers, We Will Rock You by Queen AND many more hits. Band Classes: Beginner & Intermediate
|
The Azure Music Ensemble is band class for homeschoolers! This class allows students the opportunity to play a wind, violin, or percussion instrument in a group band setting (this year we require experienced rhythm section players A Band classes - contact Vanessa for more info and see details below).
In band class students will have an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play note values. Each band class will prepare at least two concert pieces for the year end performance. Students will increase their musical awareness, ability to identify wind instruments, increase knowledge of musical styles, dynamics, various time signatures, expand auditory skills, learn how to follow a conductor, learn how to tune own instrument, aim to play in tune with others, play scales and sight read. 'A' Band - intermediate level player with at least 2+ years experience on the instrument they are playing in class. Typically students are ages 12-17 'B' Band - beginner level player with 0-2 years experience on the instrument they are playing in class. Typically students in this group are ages 9-14. Students do not require previous music experience. Rhythm Section Call Out - This term we require rhythms sections for both the A Bands (Sherwood Park and Stony Plain). We are looking for: - a piano player at a grade 5+ level - a guitar player with at least 2 years chording - bass player with at least 3 years - drum kit player with at least 3 years * there will be a reduced tuition rate for these players $100. Rhythm section players MUST commit to attending at least 80% of the rehearsals and performing at the year end concert on March 29/26 |
Term Classes: ages 4-10
Fun Drum is a class exactly as it sounds - a ton of fun drumming! Students will learn a variety of rhythms taught in a high energy, facilitated drumming circle style. Musical concepts and world rhythms will be explored by using instruments such as the djembe, duns, bells, shakers and many more percussion instruments. This class does not take part in the showcase concert.
Fun Drum - Sherwood Park @ AJ Ottewell Centre Tuesdays from 10:30am - 11:15am February 24 to March 24, 2026 (5 weeks) ages: 4-10 Tuition: $65, all instruments provided for in class use Stony Plain @ Karar Perf. Arts Tuesdays from 12:45pm - 1:30pm February 25 to March 25, 2026 (5 weeks) ages: 4-10 Tuition: $65, all instruments provided for in class use This class will have a showcase performance with the Karar Homeschool Hub classes on the last day of classes at Karar on March 25/26. |
