Are you looking for a quality band program for your homeschooler? Look no further than the Beginner Flute and Clarinet Class! Students aged 9-11 who are new to their instrument are best suited for the beginner level 1 class.
Increased musical awareness, ability to identify wind instruments, increased knowledge of musical styles, hands on musical experience, identify basic note values, rhythmic exploration, dynamics, time signatures such as 4/4 and 3/4, tempo, introduction to music notation, expand auditory skills, learn how to follow a conductor, learn how to tune own instrument, aim to play in tune with others, read sheet music, and sight read simple rhythms.
Music is more fun when it is with friends! Learn how to play a wind instrument within an ensemble setting. This class gives an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play quarter notes, half notes and whole notes on at least 5 pitches on their instrument. Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2).
Wind Ensemble level 2 builds upon the skills of Wind Ensemble level 1. This class gives an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play eighth notes and possibly sixteenth notes on at least 10 pitches on their instrument. Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two or more concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2).
Students are required to provide their own instrument for classes and to practice on for the duration of the 2024/25 season (22 weeks, term 1 and 2). Instrument options for the wind ensemble include woodwinds such as flute, clarinet, saxophone or brass instruments such as trumpet, trombone, baritone and tuba. Students are to bring their instrument, a music stand, a pencil and water to class. Azure Music Ensembles will provide a music folder and all required music.
Please arrive 15 minutes before class time to prepare instrument and be ready to set up when the class begins. Students are NOT permitted to play their instrument in the hallway before or after class.
